Family Tradition, Then & Now

Trustworthiness is still a thing. In the truest sense of the word, we still buy our wood ourselves from the forest owner and check it directly in the forest. It’s then processed in our own sawmill in Au before we bring the round and sawn timber to their destination using our fleet of vehicles. That’s how it’s traditional, that’s how it lasts.

The History

Wood is deeply rooted in the Metzler family. Johann Michael Metzler laid the foundation stone in Schwarzenberg. Born in Bregenzerwald in 1851, Johann Michael Metzler began as a trained watchmaker and, in addition to brewing beer, running a bathing establishment and a haulage company, Johann Michael Metzler was also involved in the wood trade. By the standards of the time, he exported his products far beyond the borders of his own valley. A passion for timber and timber processing is deeply anchored in the genes of the Metzler family.With Johannes Metzler and Alpenholz Metzler Handels-GmbH & Co KG, this tradition is now in its fifth generation. The company, which was newly founded in February 2016, feels committed to this philosophy and, true to the Bregenzerwald motto “We honour the old and greet the new”, the most beautiful of all materials is used both responsibly and with a lot of foresight.
